About Anushka

Anushka Joshi

Storyteller

Hi, I’m Anushka.

I’m a founder, storyteller, strategist, and operator working at the intersection of media, culture, and impact. I’m inspired to live a life in service of happier, healthier, and more fulfilled populations around me.

I’m the founder of GEN-ZiNE, a media company for young people rewriting the future, and Friend of a Friend, a dating app that shifts the world from infinite to intimate connection - and most recently, a brand consultant.

I am recognized as a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree in Media. I’m also on the Advisory Board of NowThis and have been featured in Business Insider, Forbes, and more. I’m often found on panels speaking about the social & cultural implications of technology & innovation.

I specialize in brand strategy, operations, and community-building, with a focus on designing culture for social change. I’ve led growth & community at seed-stage startups (backed by investors like Alexis Ohanian and 776 Ventures), and led & managed media operations at a Series A company (The Information’s Most 50 Promising Startups).

Outside of work, I’m a certified meditation teacher, host salons for young women around the city, and volunteer in my community. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from USC with a degree in Communication, specializing in Media Economics & Entrepreneurship.

Hi from Anushka in 2019

2019 Anushka

Throughout my education and experience at USC, I have honed in on a focus: designing media for social change. As a junior studying Communication with minors in Media, Economics, and Entrepreneurship & Visual Culture, I am provided with an interdisciplinary education that has allowed me the skills to analyze problems and execute solutions through creativity and innovation.

I believe that the media we consume has a profound impact on how we view the world. What we read, hear, watch, and see influences our thoughts, behavior, and actions. Consuming and sharing media is a form of activism if we can properly tell underrepresented stories, and mask education through entertainment.

To me, being a student goes far beyond the classroom. It’s about taking curiosity to question why systems exist the way they do, and to expanding one’s perspectives by learning from others. It’s about becoming a student of the world. I have a hunger for knowledge that is hard to satiate, and it keeps me looking closer to analyze, learn, grow and impact change. Though college is simply a moment in time, it’s the just the start to becoming a life-long learner.

Student of the world, very endearing
